What My Kids Read: Family Snapshots

Nesting for the baby has started in earnest this week! David rearranged our room to accommodate our much anticipated tiny roommate, and I started baking up some freezable meals. We still have 4 weeks to my due date, which is just a general timetable, so there’s plenty of time, but our home walk-through with my midwife is this coming week (for her to see what the general set-up is). She was my midwife for both girls, so she’s already pretty familiar with our set-up, but the home walk-through is a mile-marker so to speak, and it puts us in count-down mode.

The boys had a fun time this week. They had an impromptu overnight stay with their friends that turned into spending 2 nights with their friends. David and I took advantage of only having the two girls to take them out on a little date to Panera. We sat outside and played with Rory’s Story Cubes (affiliate link) while we ate our “girly dinner” (Brontë’s phrase). It was a fun night for us all.

We also had a chance to walk up the street to our local coffee shop and enjoy a friend’s art show this weekend. It was fun to see friends, hug some necks, enjoy some art, and get some fresh air. It was a nice break in a week of lots of work. The whole family has been plugging away, trying to get a mountain of inventory listed before the baby arrives. It’s a lot of work, but still the best feeling to be able to work together on something and see it actually working. Even still, it’s nice to get a break!

The kids are now fully into summer vacation mode. We don’t usually stop school in the summer (mainly because we want to be able to take off days during the school year), but we have stopped regular schooling for now. There has been lots of trampoline and swing set time, imaginative play (creating comic strips, dramatic and musical plays, etc.), and LEGO time. The boys had combined their LEGO collections a few weeks ago, and they have been creating some really fun buildings and inventions. The girls are getting in on the action too, which has been both really fun and very challenging for the boys to include Stella in their LEGO time. Liam usually ends up making a small “set” for her to play with, and that has worked for the most part

That’s been our week over here. How was your week? Enjoy any local art this week? What does sumer vacation look like in your home?
