The Red Herring Mystery is a mystery that is really tricky to solve.

There is a dinner party (of course), and during the course of the dinner party, a priceless gem is stolen. Is it the new butler that showed up right after the family won the trophy gem? Is it the shady character you see lurking outside of the house? There are several other dinner guests that might be up to no good… Thankfully, the main character solves crimes all the time, and he solves the mystery, but the solution is sealed until you the reader figure it out. After that, you can break the sticker seal ad see if your solution was correct. After that, you learn there is one more mystery to solve and you have to go back through the book to figure it out.

To be honest, I was wrong about the first solution, and I have not been able to figure out the second problem yet – and I’m usually really good at figuring out mysteries, so these are very tricky problems! This book requires close attention to details not only in the text, but also in the story. It’s a very fun way to spend a extremely cold afternoon inside – which we have had a few of those lately!

We have another Paul Adshead book, Puzzle Island, that the boys have also been enjoying. I believe Puzzle Island was written first, but both boys have talked so much about The Red Herring Mystery, I thought I would review that one for you.

Here’s what they have to say about The Red Herring Mystery:

Interested in buying this book? You could probably find it at the library, but the sticker seal will already be broken. I’m sure your local bookstore could get you a copy as well, but if you plan on buying The Red Herring Mystery or anything else on Amazon, would you please do it by clicking on our link? It doesn’t cost you extra, and it helps us a little. Thanks so much!
